| What a great weekend! We had 33 optis coming from as Far as Coronado CA, Marina del Rey, Morro Bay and Arizona!
Racing for the championship fleet (Red, Blue and White fleets) was held on Richardson Bay under partly sunny sky’s and 6 to 12 knots of breeze. The tide was ebbing both days during racing which led to some challenging mark rounding’s. We had a 15 boat pile up at one weather mark when a number of optis failed to fetch the mark which in turn created a massive pileup.
Meanwhile, the 11 boat strong green fleet raced in the protected waters of Belvedere Cove. The green fleet got a lot of racing in and sailed until well after the Championship fleet had arrived back at the dock.
SFYC was very well organized and hosted a great BBQ dinner Saturday evening. All the kids played on the lawn until dusk when they reluctantly had to head home. The trophy presentation after racing on Sunday was generous. Harken awarded daily bullet plaques to each finisher who finished first in a race. The first place finishers in the Red, Blue, and White fleets all received opti half models, and the top 10 finishers overall received plaques as well. The Green fleet all received participation awards, and sportsmanship awards were given to the green fleet and championship fleet sailors found most deserving. The Buckstaff family won the traveling family having traveled from Arizona!
